Bass And Pike Fishing After A Cold Front Moves Through?
Posted by Best Bass Fishing Lures on Saturday, November 7th, 2009
What is the best go to lure for bass(smallies or bucketmouths) after a cold front passes through.
we were out the other day after a cold front swept thru lake champlain, the guys fishing on the early side of the front nailed the bass and pike in the weeds, but the day after the front we could only coax a few out with tube jigs crawled on the bottom, (and we threw the whole tackle box out there)
is there a good combo besides tubes jigs out there that will coax bass to open their mouths after feeding heavy the day before..?

1. SLOW-down: Slow-roll a spinnerbait, Jig/Pig combo dragged on bottom, carolina-rigged “high-floating” worm, Etc.
2. REACTION-strike: 1/8 OZ Rattletraps or Cordell Spots, “Burning” 1/4 OZ colorado-bladed spinnerbaits through the weeds, various cranks (Manns 1-) thrown around heavy structure, Etc.
I’ve been in your position before and the best thing to do for “lockjaw”, “gorged”, Bass is to find a good shoreline you KNOW will produce fish and cast it with reaction-striking lures. If you get a fish or strike, SLOW-down and fan-cast the area with worms, jigs, Senko’s, Etc.
This time of the year, (Fall), shorelines with many “points” seem to always produce best for me.
Wait for Exert, Goldenfeather, Ingun, Eric, Addicted, Bass fisherman, Etc, they will have some good info.
Good luck!

SLOW IT WAY DOWN
you can use the same lures as before, or swithc to plastics (like you did) for better slow action
Pick it up off the bottom 2-3 ft, let it drop, and very slowly retrieve. You may have to experiment to find the best method
Just remember SLOW

I garentee the bass will watch it senko and keep an eye on it while it lays on the ground. Shake the rod tip to give the bait some movement. Make sure you dont let the senko fall on slack line like you usually would. after you shake the rod tip a few times lift the rod tip and you will raise a red flag to a bass. I used this strategy for the bass tourney i did early this year after a cold front went through. I was catching them left and right and won the tourney. I also caught a few 22-25 inch pikes.
the key to fish any bass lure under this condition is to fish it SLOWLY
for pike, try a small bluegill, crappie, perch or any other small fish and a big hook and through it out on a large bobber. The bobber should be about 4-5 feet away from the bait. Throw it out and let in sit. when the bobber goes all the way under you got a pike. Set the hook. It may take awhile to catch pike this way but it’ll work.
good question
hope i helped
good luck!

Seriously, I would try live bait in that situation, like small bluegills or bass minnows.
