Didion 19 Aug 2010 at 6:15 pm 1I love fishing! I go almost every day with my dad. To answer your question, walleye and smallmouth bass sometimes hit in the summer. If it’s too hot, or humid, there might be a chance they won’t, or they’ll try to stay towards the bottom of the lake. I always use worms. Real live worms. Also cornbread, or bread in general. Moist the bread with water and roll it on your fingers to make a little ball. The fish lures also help in some cases. It helps if it’s sunny out, so you can use a shiny lure so it catches the fish attention. Plastic worms don’t really do much unless you were fishing for carp. Even fish don’t fall for plastic worms anymore.
Have fun though =)
LokoLoboon 19 Aug 2010 at 6:26 pm 2They usually hit better in the spring.. But yes I’ve been having good luck this year.. For walleye I would suggest using a “Lindy Rig” with a leech..

bassman4468on 19 Aug 2010 at 8:17 pm 5During the summer the best way to catch walleyes is to troll the outside weededges with worm harnesses with nightcrawlers. You could also try jigs tipped with leaches. Nighttime is usually best. As for smallmouth rocky shorelines or rockpiles are best. Use live crayfish or lures that resemble crayfish in the rocks. You may also want to try top water lures like zara spooks .Also try inline spinners like mepps. Hot colors like chartruse or fire tiger are liked best by smallmouth and walleyes. Good Luck!
Rember the worst day fishing is better than the best day at work.

On the weekend, I caught 3 smallmouth bass (biggest was maybe 3lbs), and 12 walleye, all in about 4 hours, including switching lakes. The bass were slow, but it was a cloudy day in a spot I’ve never fished. Walleye were hitting very nicely.
I find bass hit best on slow presentations this time of year. Actually, I used the same jig for all those fish, a chartreuse jighead with a white Yum plastic grub. Never even busted out the worms! I fished the bass with it in the afternoon, and the walleye in the evening.
Walleye are starting to go deep during the day, but in the evening, the bite can very ferocious in shallow areas, close to weeds,. rocks and dropoffs. My technique of the day was to slowly slowly drag the jig along the bottom. That’s it! And somehow I never got snagged, and caught 15 fish without re tying.. My buddy caught 0 bass with his crankbaits! haha.
So in the end, my woman wasn’t mad that I got home so late because I brought 11 tasty friends!!!
Large Mouth Basson 19 Aug 2010 at 9:52 pm 7For Walleye , a one eighth oz weight 3 feet above a hook with a night crawler .Inject the worm with air and fish it slow .When you have it slow ,Slow it down some more .Very slow .They dont want it moving , they just want to see it move .
im feelin thison 19 Aug 2010 at 9:59 pm 8well you have to drift for them using leeches or nightcrawlers and please note:if there is blue catfish in the lake your fishing in DO NOT use spider wire because the lake that i fish in has blue catfish and walleye and the people fishing for walleye from boats are catching the blue cats and then it takes it under the boat and it breaks the pole
