HiWay69son 15 Aug 2010 at 4:08 am 2I find that bringing the hook point up closer gives me more hook exposure & more hookups. I don’t mind sacrificing a cheap lure or two to find where the snags are.
ljbrodton 15 Aug 2010 at 4:53 am 3I slammed the fish with that
CAPITANGRUMPYPANTSon 15 Aug 2010 at 5:03 am 4He’s not using the correct hook, prob one of the best hooks to use is a Gamagatsu with the right choice of size. The Gamagatsu has a paticular bend in it that rests the tip of the hook firmly against the top of the shad, or in the case of most bass anglers would be the fluke. The hook he is using is prob ok for open water. Good instructional video though.
redmond424on 15 Aug 2010 at 5:15 am 5You can also kill the weakfish with that type of shad! Also, if you fish saltwater and want a great bait fish trap, check out the You Tube video for the Collapse-A-Trap. I haven’t paid for bait in 3 years and the thing fits in your tackle box too.
artsnflieson 15 Aug 2010 at 5:24 am 6On a shad that big you need a big hook like 6/0 thru 8/0.
559kingsuckeron 15 Aug 2010 at 6:13 am 7what size hook you use on it though
VIDEOZALon 15 Aug 2010 at 6:45 am 8WOW and no weed on the hook! I’m so tired of the weed… THANKS A LOT!
gonna try it tomorrow…
artsnflieson 15 Aug 2010 at 7:24 am 9Similar, execpt Texas rigging usually leaves the hook point inside the rubber to keep it snag-less.
thepimps3000on 15 Aug 2010 at 7:51 am 10he mean texas riging
Terraxx14on 15 Aug 2010 at 8:11 am 11very good explanation

GuitarRefurbManon 15 Aug 2010 at 8:41 am 13new haven harbor is a great place to fish. I used to flyfish for striper up there… i fish jersey and delaware these days. This will certainly work- ive caught several fish there in the past on a similar setup with “saltwater assassins”. I would rig these plastics with a carolina rig, as if fishing for largemounths… God luck
artsnflieson 15 Aug 2010 at 9:19 am 14Not sure the exactg size. I’d say 10″ or so.
specifictenderon 15 Aug 2010 at 9:34 am 15We caught a couple Striper on a 1oz lead head with a 5 in fish trap swim bait; I like that rig you showed/ Im gonna try it.
blongsta5on 15 Aug 2010 at 10:20 am 16what size was that rubber shad?
artsnflieson 15 Aug 2010 at 10:24 am 17Just strike as you normally would. The point is already outside the rubber body. If the fish strikes hard enough and you have a sharp enough hook it usually hooks itself.
artsnflieson 15 Aug 2010 at 11:05 am 18Of course but you might want to use a dark color at night instead.
boxinglife123on 15 Aug 2010 at 11:22 am 19i live in Connecticut and i fish in the new haven harbor , would this work at night ?

SixFootEightTaoon 15 Aug 2010 at 12:33 pm 21how do u hook a fish like that when it bites. do u just yank it up?
artsnflieson 15 Aug 2010 at 12:48 pm 22Don’t see why this or a similar style of rubber wouldn’t work. Depends on the conditions.
