Just run the end through the eye and then back through to form a fairly large loop, tie an overhand knot in the loop with the eye inside the knot and slip the loop over the bait and pull everything tight. This knot probably the strongest fishing knot out there. You should be able to find a diagram on how to tie it on some of the fishing websites.

this allows the bait to naturally move without being restricted by the knot. On things such as spinnerbaits and regular worm rigs I use this knot http://www.marinews.com/Locked-Half-Blood-Knot-334.php

for a lot of walk-the-dog type lures, l like Brandon’s Rapala Knot.

for just tying on hooks or snaps, l use the Palomar Knot.

braids don’t hold quite as well as mono with most knots but the palomar is one that will work with braids.
M Von 04 Sep 2010 at 5:32 am 4Palomar and Improved Clinch / Berkley knots are the best.
BOBBERon 04 Sep 2010 at 6:26 am 5I use a polamar knot or the improved cinch.
Frankon 04 Sep 2010 at 7:06 am 6My personal favorite that I have been using for my whole life is the clinch knot. It is not as simple as a palomar knot, but is incredibly tough. I have tied this knot, gotten snagged, and I yanked the rod back to find that the hook bent before the line broke! Just put the knot on your tongue before you tighten it, or the friction weakens the knot. The saliva on your tongue will cool down the heat, and act as a lubricant. Also, pull it tight before you you trim the excess line, or the knot can slip and untie itself when you snag a fish. The clinch knot is different from the improved clinch knot. The improved clinch knot only goes through the hook eye once, not twice. I only use it to tie flies and small hooks where the line only fits once through. Use the clinch knot if you can. You should be able to use it for most lures and hooks.
